Top 10 Drugstore Finds – Hair & Skin

Today I thought I’d share with you my top ten drugstore finds – these products are my top picks from Boots or Superdrug that I feel are underrated or just not spoken about much online and I feel they deserve a lot more credit than they receive! I’ve decided to stick to hair and skin products in this post and then do a separate top ten post for makeup.

  1. Dr Paw Paw Balm – this is a multipurpose balm for skin, nails, lips, hair and brows. It retails for £6.95 for 25ml and will last you a surprisingly long time. It’s one of the best lipbalms I’ve found in the drugstore as it moisturises the lips while being incredibly lightweight. I always keep one in my bedside table drawer and one in my handbag for on the go. If coloured balms are more your thing they also make a pink and a red tinted balm. If you want to read a review on this you’ll find it here.
  2. Freeman Bare Foot Lavendar and Mint Foot Cream – foot cream is one of those things I neglect in my beauty routine, but since discovering this one it’s completely changed my evening routine. It’s got a beautiful scent which I find so relaxing before I go to bed and most importantly it doesn’t leave my feet sticky, which I hate!
  3. Infuse My Colour Wash Platinum – if you are a blonde you’ll know the pain of brassy tones cropping into your hair. I used to swear by the Provoke Touch of Silver shampoo – I have used it for about 7 or 8 years, until I stumbled across this shampoo in Boots. It’s quite a lot more expensive than the Provoke one, but it’s much less drying and I found that it made my hair much ashier without drying it out. They also make other colours such as copper and ruby if you want to tone your hair in a different direction. If you want to read a full product review there’s one here.
  4. Garnier Body Repair Lotion – I have to say I’m not very fussy when it comes to body lotion but one thing it has to do is to sink into the skin. I hate when you apply a body moisturiser and it just sits on the skin and you wake up feeling like your bed sheets have absorbed more moisturiser than your skin has. I’m a massive fan of all of the Garnier Body lotions in this range, but I’m currently using this one and have been really impressed with how it feels on my skin and how hydrated my skin feels afterwards.
  5. John Frieda Frizz Ease Oil – I’m a lover of all things hair serums and oils, I never ever let my hair dry without applying a good slathering of a serum or oil. My top two from the drugstore are both from John Frieda’s Frizz Ease range. I find using an oil or a serum makes such a massive difference for my hair and I never feel the need to even think about buying anything more expensive because these ones always do everything I want a hair oil to do.img_4302
  6. Biore Baking Soda Cleanser (and their Charcoal Cleanser!) – Biore make some of the best cleansers for acne prone congested skin and I’d highly recommend checking them out. Unlike other drugstore cleansers they are not stripping and don’t leave you feeling tight and dry, but they really do deep clean and I’ve seen massive improvements in my skin since using this. For me it’s not an everyday cleanser but I reach for it two to three times a week and it really has transformed my skin.
  7. Superdrug Micro Polish – I’m not a massive drugstore facial skincare person, I feel like I want to invest in my skincare and therefore rarely rely on drugstore brands. However once when I was travelling home and desperately needed some travel skincare I picked this up from Superdrug and have to say I was so impressed by it. It’s a physical exfoliant suspended in a gel which smells and feels a lot more expensive than it is. It’s also really cooling on the skin which makes it a relaxing and luxurious step in your skincare routine.
  8. Another Superdrug favourite is the Vitamin E Moisturiser which doesn’t contain mineral oil which is known for causing breakouts and just does the job of a good basic moisturiser. I’d recommend this if you’re someone who either isn’t that into skincare and just wants a simple go-to moisturiser or someone who likes to use retinols/acids and wants a simple, basic moisturiser with no frills, so you can add the frills yourself in serums etc. I reach for this often in the evenings when I want to use glycolic acid paired with a simple yet effective moisturiser.
  9. Dove Gradual Tanner – we all have those days when you feel a little low and need a pick me up and this is like a sunny day in a bottle. It gives you a beautiful subtle glow with no worry about tan lines or patchiness. It also wears off beautifully so you don’t need to worry about spending hours in the shower scrubbing off your tan! I apply this with a mitt just to prevent my hands turning brown and I also use the colour dark as I find it gives me all the colour I want in one application whereas when I use lighter shades I need numerous applications to reach my desired colour.
  10. Colab Dry Shampoo – I adore dry shampoo especially in emergencies when you’ve overslept and need to bring some balance back to the hair situation. I’m not the biggest Batiste fan as I find it makes my hair quite white and I find the scents a little too much, but the Colab range has completely changed my opinion on dry shampoo as it doesn’t leave horrific white patches and ensures that your hair stays looking fresh and clean until the next wash.

What are your top finds for your skin and hair in the drugstore/pharmacy? I’d love to try them out!
